  • independence lament

    independence lament

A fool’s flag waves above a broken dream
Bringing back to life a dried up stream
Of racist thoughts and hate filled memes
    We thought had gone away

A class war burns hot in every town
Families rounded up, taken to the ground
While we drop our bombs and children drown
In the blood of those we slay

The America we used to be
Was a land of hope and liberty
With rule of law and justice true
Our light was bright for all to view
The America the world now knows
    Is weakened by internal blows
The fights within our sacred halls
Have dimmed our light to none at all
Have dimmed our light to none at all

We pass racist laws that hurt the poor
And claim with lies we’ve settled a score
To regain the land from immigrants abhorred
Who have no way to fight

In the White House now there sits a throne
MAGA traded the Christ for a god of their own
They bow at the feet of an idol they’ve grown
    To begin the eternal night

The America we used to be
Was a land of hope and liberty
With rule of law and justice true
Our light was bright for all to view
The America the world now knows
    Is weakened by internal blows
The fights within our sacred halls
Have dimmed our light to none at all
Have dimmed our light to none at all

To reclaim the pure day we all must stand
And reject the cancer that claims our land
To march for truth and freedom they banned
For justice we too may bleed

The fascists must know we will not relent
Until never again a knee will be bent
To the oligarch racists that hell has sent
And we retake our land of the free

The America we used to be
Was a land of hope and liberty
With rule of law and justice true
Our light was bright for all to view
The America the world now knows
    Is weakened by internal blows
The fights within our sacred halls
Have dimmed our light to none at all
Have dimmed our light to none at all

  • the tao of success

    the tao of success

    You can have some success
    because of what you do
    but ultimately fail
    because of who you are
    You can have some success
    because of who you are
    but ultimately fail
    because of what you do
    Balance is the key
    be kind and work hard
    have empathy and achieve goals
    be trustworthy and follow through
    be curious and celebrate others
    Success is complex
but the yin and yang are
    authenticity and reliability

    irish

The green on the beautiful hillside
    Brings memories I’ve never know
    Of family Geoghegan in Ireland
And all of the stories of old

My Grandma Ida Mae knew them
But never a one did I hear
We never could talk about family
For she didn’t live anywhere near

Though I didn’t grow up knowing
I come from the Geoghegan clan
I feel lucky to have Irish blood
And proud to be who I am

  • we the people

    we the people

    Here we are again
    Same shit from yesteryear
    This time we knew better
This time we had more reasons
    Not to fail –
    But we did

    We the people
    Chose a felon
    Voted for a rapist
    Checked the box
    For a liar
    It’s who we collectively are

    America – do better
We the People – be better

    It’s not the party
    It’s the man
    unfit to lead
    An unhinged elitist
    Not a genius
    Just a wrecking ball

    We the People
    Chose retribution
    Picked chaos
    Embraced hate
    Composed fear
    We call it strength

    America – do better
We the People – be better

    Because here we are again
    Torn apart by false rhetoric
    With some very good people
    On both sides
    I know them well
    Yet the divide gets deeper

    We the People
    Need to remember
    To love our neighbor
    Regardless of color
    Red or blue
    No more walls

    America – do better
We the People – Be Better

    At listening to neighbors
    Turning off the noise
    Tuning in to conversation
    Bridging the divide
    Once and for all

    We the People
    Come together
    Understand the other
    Not as enemies
    Working together
    While we still can

    America – do better
We the People – be better

    We have four more years
    to practice peace

  • white bread society

    white bread society

there’s all sorts of people living all around us different but the same in so many ways and we can’t understand everything they go through unless we talk which has to go both ways and we have to listen to the joys and struggles of who they are and what they need and how afraid they are right now of losing what they inherently have as the life they’ve chosen and how they live in and amongst people that don’t understand that differences have always been here though stifled by prejudice and hate fueled by tradition or religion or ignorance or all this wrapped up in a flag we were once proud of but now makes us wince when we see it knowing that it doesn’t mean what many people think it means anymore because it’s not about freedom to live how we see fit for ourselves but to follow some outdated code of patriotism that cuts the crust off the white bread of our society and discards any piece of us that doesn’t conform which is why many of us will escape to more diverse lands and leave half of us to fight for those that don’t have a voice or a way to protect themselves and their way of being in a country that has sadly devolved with sharp but ignorant minds leading masses of misinformed and misguided souls headed in the direction of smallness and deconstruction of We the People tasked to come together and build a country based on the premise that They the People must conform to a norm that is no longer relevant to most of the country and will eventually hurt the We as much as the They while the leaders expand their wealth and control over the decreasing voice of We/They the People
