  • declaration

There is a feeling that washes over me
like a dry wind through the foothills
bringing a hint of a distant fire.

    Independence is a worn ideal
    based on might and threat,
bombs, bursting in air to bring fear.

That once distant fire is now ubiquitous,
burning in the hearts of the many
    yet never consuming the desire.

    Freedom is a tattered belief,
    held before multinational corporations
dealt in the dependence of all for one.

There is a feeling that washes over me,
that only with change can freedom come
like a summer rain that carries no threats.

    Cooperation is a missing component
of many foreign affairs in disarray
with the foolish notion of control.

The rockets red glare is frightening,
making the dog run under the bed
and the cat wisely hide in the shadows.

Peace is deemed a futile hope
unless the thought of war remains
in the consciousness of the poor.

There is a feeling that washes over me,
perhaps bringing the winds of change
if we choose to declare Interdependence.

    That feeling,
    no it's more than that
    and less,
    that sense of being
when you sit on the edge,
    darkness, cliffs, sanity,
    no matter how funny,
    intelligent,
    likeable,
    charming,
    responsible,
    sober you are
    nothing fills you
    but a desire
    to see nothing more
    and nothing less
than what you have already seen
    and the flood of emotion,
that drought of love in a perfect storm
    makes you take a step
    into, off of, past
    where you hope to feel,
    no it's more than that,
    and less,
    you hope to be
    different.

    Independence Day
Fought and died for with honor
    No freedom is free
  • the journey

    "Are we there yet?"
    "No, for the 500th time!"
"We'll be there when we get there!"
We'll be there when equality is a given.
We'll be there when everyone has enough.
We'll be there when genocide is never the answer.
We'll be there when war is a historical reference.
We'll be there when faith is not a reason to hate.
We'll be there when the mentally ill are not shoved under bridges.
We'll be there when no one believes in a grim fairy tale ending.
We'll be there when everyone loves and is loved.
    "Are we there yet?"
"No for the 501st time, but we're closer than we were 500 miles ago."
"Do something useful, we'll be there before you know it!"
We're closer than we were 500 years ago.
Do something useful, we'll be there before you know it.
  • sinking

    the inability to feel
    the beauty of a sunset
    or feel calm when evening
    peacefulness
    is laid before you
    lets you know that
    the sinking feeling of
    depression
    has a foot hold
    pulling you under and
    making even the smallest
    hope
of a better day so far away
    that nothing will let you
    escape from the tyranny of
    despair
    There's no middle ground
    you understand or you don't
that without hope there is no
    tomorrow
    and without help
    you'll find with the sunrise
    just another
    today
