good measure
You can’t measure a person by their character by their faith by their stature the way they express themselves the good they do for others You can’t measure a person by their honesty by their goodness by their giving the level of hope they have the amount of grief they’ve endured You can’t measure a person by their friends by their grudges by their money the love of family in their heart the moments they missed The only good measure for anyone is how much you’ll miss them when they’re gone

missed minutes of heaven
That time you drove past the single mom Changing a tire in the rain You didn’t stop to help And missed a few minutes of palpable joy Or when you scolded the dad at the store Buying last minute diapers With a screaming child And brought hell into play for your own peace And the time your child needed comfort After being laughed at in school Instead you quoted A long dead maxim that ignored opportunity You open a door that is quickly slammed When you rush intimacy Into gratification without gentleness And the chance to whisper love instead of shout You miss minutes of heaven every day When you are not present Not looking for moments To bring joy and love to the world you have May you see that you have enough heaven To last for eternity In your moments on earth Time only matters in the realm of kindness

time warp
I don’t even remember November what the hell is happening why does time need to speed there’s a warp all of the sudden in minutes in decency in frequency of mindless things so now we surrender December the white flag already raised to the onslaught we’ve wrought by rushing to the next thing and neglecting, not protecting each precious moment to create a world mindful and kind full we can pause what’s happening and step off this dreadful treadmill opening up to peace and to breathing instead of seething before these moments pass
