Year: 2021

  • i’ve got to…

That’s how it starts, the spiral down
An eye twitch that begins slowly
    The notice to your body
    That anxiety is here
    Taking over today
    Every thought
    Sinking

    I’ve got to…
  • winter solstice

The whole day is a similar length
But sunlight is the shortest today
A near full moon softens the night
‘til the sun can break through the fray

Love, my friend, always has strength
But at times the darkness holds sway
A warm smile can bring needed light
To a soul that is weak and afraid

Though the day is much shorter than night
As this solstice of winter makes way
In the night we embrace in our hearts
May we find the love that we crave
  • end of the republic

    What comes next
At the end of our Republic
    Calmer minds need to guide
    As this slow dissolution
Plays out in front of us all
    What comes next
    When this Republic fails
    Eaten away by the differences
Rusted by lies sold as truth
    Amplified by our connectedness
    What comes next
    After the final Republic breath
    Its heartbeat races too fast
    In fear of the other
    Soon to finally rupture
    What comes next
Will not look like this Republic
The world is waiting to see
    As are the children
    Whose only hope is peace
  • halloween

    the children keep coming
    well into the evening
    ghouls and goblins abound
    witches and superheroes
    and the occasional princess
sweet as the sugar we’re pedaling
they come and go every year
and never seem to get older
    gladly taking candy from our
    spotted and wrinkled hands
as fast as we can hand it out
    placating the never ending hoards
    coming to our door again
this year as with every year
and again our hearts are as full
    as our bowl of candy
for on this night at this house
    the joy of the children
is all the magic we need
  • bookends

    From take a knee outrage
    To take a life insurrection
    Bookends to a failed experiment
    White nationalism
    White supremacy
    White privilege
    “White fragility”
    Supported by an Evangelical cult
    Itself with two bookends
    Unborn babies
    Religious privilege
While born babies get put in cages
    The other is outcast
    Other colors
    Other countries
    Other religions
    “Other fragility”
    Bookends need to be placed
    To hold the constitution upright
    Reparations then Reconciliation
    Redemption comes with a price
Not for an end times jihad
    This time
    This place
    This country
    “This fragility”
    Time for cult members
    To see the light
    Of Freedom and Justice
    For All
    The two bookends of unity
