    Following tradition
    I memorize the dogma
    Never questioning nor diverging
The way is clear and harsh
    My steps and thought, straight
    I follow the path
    Rejecting tradition
    I rebel against the dogma
    And question all before me
As I come to the end of the path
    To stop, deep in thought
    On what is the way
    Creating traditions
    Without harsh dogma
    Embracing questions and wonder
I forge a new, more beautiful path
I walk without listening to thought
    And follow the Way

    The whole world exists
    In this single flower bloom
    Yellow like the sun
  • the choice

    It’s not a choice
    Between good and evil
    The deep divide is
    On what is good
    And what is evil
    These are debated
    Unendingly, not finding
    A common ground
    A sense of truth
    A path to follow
    Belief is not knowledge
    True faith is not fact
    In history, religion has
    Traded evil for good
    And good for evil
    Endless debates continue
    Church and State
    Black and White
    Right and Left
    Good and Evil
    We’ve become bipolar
    No middle ground
    Against each other
    Hate your neighbor
    And your enemy
    The red we see
    On the street
    In the station
    At the battlefield
    It’s the same shade
    Not good nor evil
    It flows in us all
    And the fact is
    We all share DNA
    99.9% the same
    The world is small
    As are many minds
    Growing smaller
    With dog whistles
    In our ears
    Sounding the call
    To ruin us all
    Not just here
    But everywhere
    Our beliefs touch
    The good
    The evil
    Also
    Share
    DNA

    My ego rises
    When conflict comes
    Whether true or not
It stands to defend who I think I am
    Self compassion says:
    “Watch the ego rise,
    See the light it shines
    And recognize what it illuminates”
    “See the spotlight
And move out of its effect
    To see your true self
    Recognize your reaction and watch”
    I move and remove
    Myself from the battle
    To see the truth
And become aware of my angst
    I am not the problem
    It exists outside of me
    The calm enters in
As the ego dips beyond the horizon

    We released you Copper Dog
    To join with the interbeings
    Giving your one-eyed wisdom
    Like a salty-dog pirate
To your crew of raccoons and opossums
And the rag tag kittens of pets past
    You released us Copper Dog
    And embraced the great unknown
To clear it for us of anything
That would run at the Great Bark
    Sounded across the vastness
    Echoing forever in our hearts
    You were loved Copper Dog
With the fluffy hair and floppy ears
Always generous with a welcome home
Always stingy with a meaty bone
    Never quiet with a stranger
    Never shy with a friend
We were loved by Copper Dog
    And changed by knowing him
    Learning to smell the breeze
    For what is coming next
And to search for the smallest opening
    To chase after joy
