Age is relative, so I’ve heard them say.
Them, you know, the people over 60.
Joining the Them ranks, I say
Age is relevant only if you choose
To let it define you, which is why
    I choose to define 60: it’s way
Younger than it was when I was 30.
  • simply love

    Though there isn’t anything
    simple about it anymore,
    I choose to simply love
    and that brings back
    the times when true
    love was simple.
  • sweet embrace

    with each year's passing
    I feel a lessening
    a sense of smallness
    that seeps into the silence
    of the coming new year
    I can see it
    tiptoeing quietly
    across the dew covered
    landscape as if being
    painted by a master
    it slips into the morning
sun as the new year rises
and greets me like a worn
friend it has yet to meet
    and embrace with hope
    for with each year's passing
though I am not shrinking away
    the opportunities in the world
    grow much larger
    and more complex
so I stand with my face
    to the risen year
    and step brazenly
    into that sweet embrace
    that waits for me
  • triads

I engage the sacred with new eyes and
being open to the ancient without looking,
a first trickle of pure, sustaining water
drips to the bottom of the dry well.
There is bliss under the oaks council and
in the rituals of the Mystics around me,
I find a space for spirituality to dance
on the well worn paths of my soul.
It will be on new paths outside the old
that peace comes like welcome rain
    to wash the dust from years of neglect;
There is hope I can’t see in the darkness.
  • walking with lao tzu

The path that is named is not the path
The way that is named is not the way

Yet walking it with a brother is sweet
And walking it with a sister is sacred
When walking it with a child it is joyous
And walking it with an elder is holy
The path that is named is not the path
The way that is named is not the way
But in the paradox there are many names
